Sunrise and Sunset Planner
Check local sunrise and sunset for a destination and date, then plan a usable daylight margin around terrain, access hours and the return journey.
Is sunset the same as usable outdoor time?
Sunset is a calculated astronomical time for the matched coordinates and destination timezone; it is not the last safe minute of a walk or activity. Forest cover, mountains, cloud, wet ground and unfamiliar terrain can make a route feel dark earlier. Start with the place where usable light matters—the trailhead, station, visitor centre or final clear path—and work backwards through rest stops, queues and the slowest section. Check gates, car parks, cable cars, course hours and the last transport because they may finish before sunset. The planner cannot estimate walking pace or judge the experience of the group. Carry a suitable light when the route or season requires it, but shorten the plan when the timing only works at the fastest expected pace.
How to use this information
The result uses the destination timezone. Confirm daylight-saving changes and compare the calculated time with current access, transport and weather information.
